A wide Japanese maki-e lacquer panel showing two white rabbits sitting among silver pampas grass under a large full autumn moon. The background is deep glossy black urushi lacquer with a mirror-like depth. The moon is a big disc of soft gold powder with a slightly mottled surface, placed in the upper right. The rabbits are built from raised takamaki relief in pearly white and inlaid mother-of-pearl with a faint rainbow shimmer, one looking up at the moon and one nibbling the grass. Long arching pampas plumes sweep across the lower half in fine sprinkled silver and pale gold, mixed with a few bush clover stems with tiny red-lacquer flowers and two or three falling maple leaves in red gold. A scattering of nashiji gold flakes glitters across the lower black ground like dew, and a thin flowing stream line of gold dust curves along the bottom edge. Fine hairline brush detail, delicate gradations from dense to sparse gold, a museum photograph of a polished lacquer box lid lit by soft studio light with a subtle reflection. Quiet, elegant, autumn moon-viewing mood. Wide landscape 16:9. No text, no calligraphy, no signatures, no seals, no logos.
